I have always found art very intriguing. Some of my earliest memories of art are doodling as a child and being enthralled with comic books and comic strips. Publishing my own comic strip is something I would like to achieve in the future.
Growing up I always knew I wanted to have a career in graphics/design but could never pinpoint which field I would enjoy most. After high school graduation, I decided to pursue a degree in Architecture at the University of Tennessee. After completing my freshman year, I discovered I was not content with this decision and would like to pursue another field. After discussing several options with several sources, someone told me about the Computer Animation Department at East Tennessee State University. It was during that discussion that I realized exactly what I wanted to do…or so I thought!
I made the decision to transfer to ETSU and enroll with a decided major of Computer Animation. Included in the Computer Animation curriculum were various design classes. After completing the Graphic and Web Design classes, I once again had another epiphany. I realized that my passion was in Graphic and Web Design. Taking these classes allowed me the opportunity to work for Stellar Studios, a design firm in Johnson City. Although I was learning several new things from my courses at ETSU, the experience I received at Stellar was immeasurable. Working at the studio taught me the intricacies of design, how to professionally interact with clients and how to fully utilize my creativity.
Upon college graduation, I decided to move back to Knoxville and seek a position similar to what I was doing at Stellar. I had a few temporary positions before finally accepting a full-time position with the Knox County Government as their Graphic/Web Designer. All this brings me to the present...
Present...
Currently, I am working with Red Clay Interactive as a Creative Designer. I accepted this position last summer and have no regrets moving my family to Gainesville, GA to gain such awesome experience with such a great Design Firm. When comparing my current position with Red Clay to my former position with Knox County, words cannot express how much it has helped me to be surrounded with other designers and developers. I am now approaching the completion of my first year with Red Clay and I feel that I have grown immensely as a Designer and have learned several new things from my co-workers and superiors. I enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and team work at Red Clay and have found that it is very inducive to further developing my skills. I am thinking more creatively and viewing things from different angles than what I did before. I am very grateful for this opportunity and will carry all the things I have learned at Red Clay with me throughout my career.
I am in my second year of marriage and enjoying it even more than the first. My wife and I now have 3 dogs who we treat like children. We enjoy everything we do together and find ourselves frequently going back to Knoxville on the weekends to visit friends and family. My wife has been my greatest inspiration. She encourages me to put forth my best effort in ALL I do and to never settle for mediocrity. She provides constructive criticism (when requested!), offers great advice and motivates me through her love and support. Without her, I would not be the person or designer I am today. Now, that brings me to the future...
Future...
In the future, I hope to continue expanding my creativity in other areas of design. I have not defined these areas, but am in the process of researching my options and looking for new opportunities. My end goal is to gain the experience necessary to be the best designer I can possibly be. I hope my work will inspire new designers and motivate current designers to continue learning new skills and increasing their productivity level and quality.
